Mushroom Research Centre was a coming together
of researchers from Faculty of Science and Medicine in 2005 to spearhead
quality research, knowledge dissemination, human resource
training, product and process development in consonance with the nation’s needs
for a vibrant mushroom industry and to exploit
Malaysia’s mushroom biodiversity for food, feed, fuel and chemicals.
Our activities include acquisition of
macrofungal diversity of Malaysia – an unexploited gene pool for
biotechnological applications; training of human resource and
dissemination of knowledge; research in mushroom biology and
biotechnology and promotional activities - taking the findings to
industry and society in collaboration
with Department of Agriculture (DOA) and Malaysian Mushroom Research
Association.
OUR AIMS
1. To foster multidisciplinary
research collaboration and networking in mushroom research, within the
University, nationally and internationally
2. To provide a well supported focus in
mushroom research activities to enhance national and global competitiveness for
funding and recognition.
3. To strengthen and promote excellence
in teaching in the current aspects of mushroom research focusing on
high quality p+ostgraduate education and professional training
4. To disseminate current knowledge in
mushroom research to end-users through MoU, publications, consultancies and
training
5. To create awareness of the goodness
of mushroom in a healthy diet to the public through the media, public lectures
and exhibitions
6. To publish in journals, monographs
and books of high impact and international repute
7. To develop new and novel value added
products, processes, platform technologies and patents
8. To exploit Malaysia’s diverse
mushroom biodiversity in a sustainable way.
